Rutherglen MSP Clare Haughey has reiterated her calls for a second EU referendum, after a tumultuous couple of weeks in the world of politics. The Prime Minister Theresa May survived a no confidence motion after her Brexit deal was voted down at Westminster, and she is set to come back to MPs for a further vote on a new proposal in the coming days.
PM SCRAPS SETTLED STATUS FEE FOR EU CITIZENS AFTER CAMPAIGN
The Prime Minister Theresa May has announced the hugely controversial Settled Status fee for EU citizens will be scrapped. Previously, the UK Government had planned to force EU citizens to pay a £65 administration fee for their right to continued residence in the UK. Applications for children were set to incur a charge of £32.50.
MSP SEEKS ASSURANCES AFTER SANTANDER BRANCH CLOSURES
Local MSP Clare Haughey has contacted Santander enquiring about the bank’s long-term future in Rutherglen, after it announced it was to close other sites across the UK. Santander published a list of 140 branches it is to axe, however the Rutherglen Main Street branch was not included. Stores set to close include Glasgow Forge Shopping Centre, Springburn and Lanark.

Anyone in South Lanarkshire who was born on the day the Scottish Parliament officially opened will be invited to special anniversary celebrations. Holyrood officials are planning a year-long programme of events to commemorate the Parliament's 20th anniversary.

LOCAL MSP SLAMS UK GOVERNMENT FOR PENSION CHANGES TO UNIVERSAL CREDIT
Rutherglen MSP Clare Haughey has blasted changes to Universal Credit which may see elderly people with partners of working age losing up to £7,000 a year. The new rules which will come into force on 15 May will mean new pensioners can no longer claim Pension Credit if their partners are younger than the state retirement age. Mixed age couples who are already claiming pension age benefits will not be affected by the change.

Rutherglen MSP Clare Haughey is supporting a project aimed at helping homeless people throughout the remainder of Winter. The Simon Community and Streetwork Scotland have teamed-up to run an anti-hypothermia campaign to ensure homeless people ‘Stay Warm, Stay Safe’ at this time of year.
