SEARCH FOR PEOPLE BORN ON DAY SCOTTISH PARLIAMENT RE-CONVENED
Anyone in South Lanarkshire who was born on the day the Scottish Parliament officially opened will be invited to special anniversary celebrations.
Holyrood officials are planning a year-long programme of events to commemorate the Parliament’s 20th anniversary.
The Scottish Parliament was officially opened on July 1 1999, and bosses are trying to track down the 163 Scots born on that day so they can join in the celebrations.
Events planned during the year include the launch of a new public exhibition telling the story of the Parliament; a series of family days; a formal event in the Debating Chamber; and a national photography competition to find the best images illustrating Holyrood’s 20-year history.
Blantyre MSP Clare Haughey is backing the search and is encouraging any constituent who may have been born on 1 July 1999 to come forward:
Commenting, the MSP said:
“With 163 people being born on the same day as the Scottish Parliament re-convened, there are bound to be a few living in South Lanarkshire.
“Parliament officials invited those born on 1 July 1999 to attend events for the 10th anniversary in 2009, so whether you may have attended then or missed out, I’d hope you can join the celebrations this time round.”
Any young people who were born on 1 July 1999 in Scotland, and who may be interested in getting involved, should contact: 20years@parliament.scot.
