Rutherglen MSP Clare Haughey is calling on businesses to “get ready for the challenges of Brexit” by looking into support made available by the Scottish Government. Scotland’s enterprise and skills agencies have come together to launch the ‘Prepare for Brexit’ website which features a self-assessment tool that helps businesses identify how they might be affected by Brexit and what they can do to prepare.

EXPANSION OF FREE PERSONAL CARE
As of April 1st, free personal care has been extended to people of all ages who are assessed as requiring it. Free personal care for older people is one of the landmark achievements of devolution with nearly 76,000 people over the age of 65 currently benefiting from it in Scotland. With the expansion, known as Frank’s Law, at least 9,000 more families are now be eligible.
UNIVERSAL CREDIT SPLIT PAYMENTS GIVEN TO ONLY 20 CLAIMANTS: NONE IN SCOTLAND
Rutherglen MSP Clare Haughey has urged the UK government to introduce split household payments of Universal Credit by default. Just 20 claimants were in receipt of split payments across the UK - despite almost 1.3 million claimants of Universal Credit, including 120,000 in Scotland – but not one person in Scotland received a split payment of Universal Credit last year.

LOCAL MSP AND CITIZENS ADVICE TO HOLD ADVICE SURGERY FOR EU NATIONALS
Rutherglen MSP Clare Haughey has joined forces with the Rutherglen and Cambuslang Citizens Advice Bureau to offer support and advice for EU nationals who are concerned about Brexit. The local MSP and the Citizens Advice Bureau will be holding a joint surgery for EU nationals in the Cambuslang Institute between 11am and 1pm, on Thursday April 18. Ms Haughey will be joined by her staff who will be on hand to help answer any Brexit-related queries.
RATES CAP SAVES SOUTH LANARKSHIRE BUSINESSES £4 MILLION
New figures released by the Scottish Government estimate that businesses across South Lanarkshire will save £4.2 million in 2019/2020 through a policy move to protect small businesses. During the Budget process, the Scottish Government decided to cap increases in poundage rates to below inflation which will result in lower business rates for firms across Scotland.

Rutherglen and Cambuslang are benefitting from an increase in the numbers of staff working for NHS Lanarkshire – part of a Scotland-wide rise that has seen the NHS workforce reach record levels in 2018.
RECORD NUMBER OF SOUTH LANARKSHIRE SCHOOL LEAVERS IN ‘POSITIVE DESTINATIONS’
Rutherglen MSP Clare Haughey has praised young adults, school staff and parents after a record number of pupils left school entering positive follow-up destinations. According to the most recent figures, 96.4% of South Lanarkshire pupils entered work, training or further study within three months of leaving school last year – a rise of nearly 10% over the last nine years.
RUTHERGLEN AND CAMBUSLANG FIRMS BENEFIT £10M IN BUSINESS RATES SUPPORT
The Scottish Government’s Small Business Bonus Scheme provided £9.9 million of support for businesses across South Lanarkshire in 2017/18 – an 11.7% rise on the previous year. The Small Business Bonus Scheme, introduced by the Scottish Government in 2008/09, supports local firms by reducing their rates liability or taking firms out of business rates altogether.
