MSP ENCOURAGES LOCAL BUSINESSES TO PREPARE FOR BREXIT

Rutherglen MSP Clare Haughey is calling on businesses to “get ready for the challenges of Brexit” by looking into support made available by the Scottish Government. Scotland’s enterprise and skills agencies have come together to launch the ‘Prepare for Brexit’ website which features a self-assessment tool that helps businesses identify how they might be affected by Brexit and what they can do to prepare.

EXPANSION OF FREE PERSONAL CARE

As of April 1st, free personal care has been extended to people of all ages who are assessed as requiring it. Free personal care for older people is one of the landmark achievements of devolution with nearly 76,000 people over the age of 65 currently benefiting from it in Scotland. With the expansion, known as Frank’s Law, at least 9,000 more families are now be eligible.

LOCAL MSP AND CITIZENS ADVICE TO HOLD ADVICE SURGERY FOR EU NATIONALS

Rutherglen MSP Clare Haughey has joined forces with the Rutherglen and Cambuslang Citizens Advice Bureau to offer support and advice for EU nationals who are concerned about Brexit. The local MSP and the Citizens Advice Bureau will be holding a joint surgery for EU nationals in the Cambuslang Institute between 11am and 1pm, on Thursday April 18. Ms Haughey will be joined by her staff who will be on hand to help answer any Brexit-related queries.

RECORD NUMBER OF SOUTH LANARKSHIRE SCHOOL LEAVERS IN ‘POSITIVE DESTINATIONS’

Rutherglen MSP Clare Haughey has praised young adults, school staff and parents after a record number of pupils left school entering positive follow-up destinations. According to the most recent figures, 96.4% of South Lanarkshire pupils entered work, training or further study within three months of leaving school last year – a rise of nearly 10% over the last nine years.
