MSP ENCOURAGES LOCAL BUSINESSES TO PREPARE FOR BREXIT

Rutherglen MSP Clare Haughey is calling on businesses to “get ready for the challenges of Brexit” by looking into support made available by the Scottish Government.

Scotland’s enterprise and skills agencies have come together to launch the ‘Prepare for Brexit’ website which features a self-assessment tool that helps businesses identify how they might be affected by Brexit and what they can do to prepare.

It makes the reader aware of the risks and challenges of the new economic landscape and highlights areas that they need to plan for, providing tailored recommendations, and suggesting events, services and support available.

The Scottish Government has also launched a £2 million fund to help businesses prepare for the UK’s withdrawal of the EU. The Brexit Support Grant, administered by Scottish Enterprise, is available to help small and medium sized businesses manage a wide range of Brexit impacts with funding of up to £4,000 each.

Commenting, Rutherglen MSP Clare Haughey said:

“Our small and medium-sized businesses are critical to the local and wider Scottish economy, and it is unacceptable that they are facing this level of uncertainty so close to the UK leaving the EU.

“I am firmly opposed to Brexit and I continue to hope that it can be avoided, but with every passing day, the UK Government is getting closer to taking our economy off the cliff.

“As such, businesses still need to get ready for the challenges of Brexit.

“Scottish Government analysis shows that all Brexit outcomes will damage our economy so it is essential businesses prepare for a range of scenarios.

“Whether it’s through the practical advice on the website or through the funding, I encourage local businesses to look into the assistance on offer by the Scottish Government.”
