The Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS) has stepped in to protect members of Parkhead Credit Union in the East End of Glasgow, which has stopped trading and is now in default. Rutherglen MSP Clare Haughey has been contacted by the FSCS to advise that some of her constituents are customers, however the FSCS have added that they will “compensate the vast majority” of constituents who were members of the Glasgow-based Credit Union “within seven days”.
UK GOVERNMENT MUST ENSURE A SECURE FUTURE FOR POST OFFICES
Rutherglen MSP Clare Haughey has backed calls from MPs at Westminster for the UK Government to ensure the future of the Post Office network is secure. The calls come as new figures reveal that Scotland is being hit hardest by post office closures. Of 1,016 temporarily closed branches in the UK, 134 are in Scotland, representing 13 per cent.
FIXED-ODDS BETTING TERMINAL MAXIMUM STAKE COMES INTO FORCE

MSP ENCOURAGES LOCAL BUSINESSES TO PREPARE FOR BREXIT
Rutherglen MSP Clare Haughey is calling on businesses to “get ready for the challenges of Brexit” by looking into support made available by the Scottish Government. Scotland’s enterprise and skills agencies have come together to launch the ‘Prepare for Brexit’ website which features a self-assessment tool that helps businesses identify how they might be affected by Brexit and what they can do to prepare.
EXPANSION OF FREE PERSONAL CARE
As of April 1st, free personal care has been extended to people of all ages who are assessed as requiring it. Free personal care for older people is one of the landmark achievements of devolution with nearly 76,000 people over the age of 65 currently benefiting from it in Scotland. With the expansion, known as Frank’s Law, at least 9,000 more families are now be eligible.
UNIVERSAL CREDIT SPLIT PAYMENTS GIVEN TO ONLY 20 CLAIMANTS: NONE IN SCOTLAND
Rutherglen MSP Clare Haughey has urged the UK government to introduce split household payments of Universal Credit by default. Just 20 claimants were in receipt of split payments across the UK - despite almost 1.3 million claimants of Universal Credit, including 120,000 in Scotland – but not one person in Scotland received a split payment of Universal Credit last year.
REGISTRATIONS FOR OVERSEAS WORKERS DROPS BY 34 PERCENT
MSP Clare Haughey has blamed the UK Government's Brexit rhetoric for a fall in the number of overseas workers coming to South Lanarkshire, and warned that this may cause damage to the local economy and public services.
