RUTHERGLEN POST OFFICE SET TO RE-OPEN
Rutherglen MSP Clare Haughey and Rutherglen Central and North Councillor Janine Calikes have announced that the Main Street Post Office is to re-open within the next few days.
A representative from Post Office Ltd’s public engagement team called the MSP’s office on Monday (December 3) to advise that a temporary postmaster will take over at some point this week.
Clare Haughey MSP and Cllr Calikes have jointly been pushing the Post Office to take urgent action to re-open the service over the last few months, and it seems their pressure has paid off.
Commenting, Clare Haughey MSP said:
“I am delighted for my constituents that the Post Office is to re-open, however I share in the community’s frustrations in how lengthy this wait has been.
“Main Street is the heart of Rutherglen, and to be without a Post Office for so long has been unacceptable.
“Cllr Calikes and I have been in continual contact with Post Office Ltd over the last few months urging them to resolve the situation, so I am very pleased our pressure has finally paid off.”
Cllr Janine Calikes added:
“I am glad this saga is now nearing an end, however it should not have taken six months for it to re-open. The community rallied together against the closure and I am sure this news will be a relief locally.
“Post Office Ltd has advised that the replacement postmaster is only temporary therefore I wish to reassure my constituents that we will remain in contact with the company to ensure we have a functioning Post Office for the long-term.”
