RUTHERGLEN MSP WELCOMES CHANNEL 4’S NEW SCOTTISH HUB

For immediate release:

RUTHERGLEN MSP WELCOMES CHANNEL 4’S NEW SCOTTISH HUB

Local MSP Clare Haughey has welcomed the news that Channel 4 is to establish a new base in Glasgow.

Announced on the 31st October, the Channel 4 Board confirmed that Leeds will be the site of the channel’s new National Headquarters whilst Bristol and Glasgow will be the locations of two new Creative Hubs. Glasgow had originally been one of 30 cities aiming to be the site of the channel’s headquarters, but after losing out was shortlisted for one of the two Creative Hub slots.

The news means that Glasgow will now receive its share of hundreds of jobs which come with the three sites, and MSP Clare Haughey is hoping Rutherglen and Cambuslang see some of the benefits.

The Rutherglen MSP previously wrote to the leadership at Glasgow City Council supporting the campaign to bring Channel 4 to the city.

Commenting, Clare Haughey MSP said:

“It’s great news that Channel 4 has chosen Glasgow to be the location of one of its new Creative Hubs. This is an amazing opportunity for the city, and I sincerely hope for surrounding areas too.

“Culturally, this will be very exciting locally and I’m sure it will have a positive knock-on effect economically with exciting new job opportunities for my constituents.

“The G4C4 team, and in particular Stuart Cosgrove and councillors Susan Aitken and David McDonald, deserve great credit for driving the successful bid.”
