DEBATE ON CELEBRATING SCOTLAND’S VOLUNTEERS

It was a pleasure to take part in a debate today marking Volunteers’ Week – and it was a great opportunity to highlight some of the tremendous work undertaken by volunteers in my Rutherglen constituency.

From Rutherglen and Cambuslang Foodbank, to R:evolve Recycle and Blantyre Soccer Academy, there are thousands of selfless people who give up their time which ensures that our communities continue to thrive.

Within my speech, I also highlighted the hard work of the Community Councils throughout my constituency. Rutherglen, Burnside, Cambuslang, Halfway, and Blantyre Community Councils do great work locally – and they are always looking for new people to join.

People all across Scotland make absolutely vital contributions every day – to their families, communities and to society as a whole – doing what they believe in without fanfare or reward but because they believe in making our society that little bit better.
