MSP OFFERS SUPPORT TO 2 SISTERS WORKFORCE

Following the news that the 2 Sisters Group may close its chicken production plant in Cambuslang, local MSP Clare Haughey has called on the company to give assurances over the future of jobs — and get round the table to discuss securing a future for the site.

Ms Haughey is writing to management of the 2 Sisters Group seeking a meeting and will be engaging with the workforce and unions at the site. She has also written to Cabinet Secretary for the Economy Keith Brown to ask what support the Scottish Government can give in terms of protecting jobs.

Commenting, Clare Haughey MSP said:

“This will come as troubling news and everyone’s first concern should be for the workforce at the 2 Sisters plant in Cambuslang.

“I’ll be seeking a meeting with management at the site as an absolute priority to better understand the circumstances that they find themselves in and what can be done to secure a future for the factory. They’ve indicated a summer timescale for any closure plans so that’s a number of months to work towards finding a solution. I hope we can get everyone working towards that goal in the first instance.

“I’ll also be engaging with the workforce and the union reps so they have assurances they need over continuing employment at this uncertain time.

“Given 2 Sisters is such a major employer in my constituency, and throughout Scotland, I’ve written to the Scottish Government to ask what support and assistance they can give to the company to secure jobs for the future.

“The poultry sector has faced its fair share of challenges in recent years, but I’m determined to do all I can to help those constituents and their families who may be affected.”
