Clare wrote to Tory List MSPs Annie Wells and Adam Tomkins about the horrific Rape Clause that offers tax credits for a third child only if a mother can prove she has been raped.

“I am very disappointed – but unfortunately not surprised – by Annie Wells’ reply to my letter. She is trying to justify, rather than condemn, the UK Government’s policy.

What she fails to understand it isn’t just women and children in Scotland who are affected by this, it is a UK-wide problem that the UK Government needs to fix.

Annie Wells asks what “improvements” are needed. I suggest that scrapping the Two Child Policy and the Rape Clause would be a good start.”
