Last week at Parliament, Clare took part in a debate on fair work. Scotland’s economy remains strong and our labour market is positive - with high employment and low unemployment. However, we know that, for too many, the experience of work is not always positive.
MSP CONDEMNS NEWTON FARM BROADBAND PROVISION
Rutherglen MSP, Clare Haughey, has condemned house builders in the Newton Farm area of Cambuslang for not providing superfast broadband in new build developments. The SNP MSP has been campaigning on the issue of poor broadband provision in Newton Farm since her election, and has welcomed recent assurances from Openreach that one fibre cabinet in the area will be upgraded by the end of April this year, with another due to be upgraded within 12 months.
DEBATE ON INCINERATORS, PUBLIC HEALTH & PLANNING
Today during a debate on incinerators, public health, and planning, I gave a speech highlighting the tremendous community-led campaign against the Whitehill Incinerator in Hamilton. My contribution specifically outlined the tireless efforts of Blantyre and Halfway Community Councils in fighting the proposal.

Rutherglen MSP Clare Haughey last week (8th March) raised the proposed closure of the 2 Sisters plant in Cambuslang with the Scottish Government at Holyrood. Clare Haughey MSP has been actively involved since the company’s announcement last month, and has raised the matter twice in the Scottish Parliament.
DEBATE ON INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY
I was honoured to be able to participate in a debate in the Scottish Parliament marking International Women’s Day – alongside so many strong female MSPs across the political divide. Whilst we are in the fortunate position to be elected politicians, many women across Scotland and the UK are still subject to poorer working conditions than their male counterparts.
GENERAL QUESTION ON PROPOSED CLOSURE OF 2 SISTERS FACTORY
Today at Parliament, I was able to further highlight the proposed closure of the 2 Sisters factory in Cambuslang. This is the second occasion that I have raised the issue in Holyrood, and the second occasion that I have been reassured by the Scottish Government’s response.
