Today at Parliament, I was able to further highlight the proposed closure of the 2 Sisters factory in Cambuslang.
This is the second occasion that I have raised the issue in Holyrood, and the second occasion that I have been reassured by the Scottish Government’s response. It is clear – they are doing all they possibly can to find a positive resolution for the workers and the site.
During his answer, the Business Minister, Paul Wheelhouse MSP, advised that the Scottish Government will continue to work with trade unions and company representatives, whilst the governmental agencies Scottish Enterprise and PACE will remain actively involved. The government are also looking at the support which can be provided by the Scottish Manufacturing Advisory Service and Skills Development Scotland.
My concerns remain with the workers of the plant, and I can assure them that I will continue to work with all stakeholders to ensure I am doing all I can to assist them during this difficult time.
