The Scottish Government have committed to looking into the setting up of an Action Group to support the workers and local community after the devastating announcement that 2 Sisters is set to close its factory in Cambuslang.
DEBATE ON SAFE INJECTION FACILITIES
Last week at Parliament, I had the opportunity to take part in a debate on safe injection facilities – otherwise referred to as drug consumption rooms. Such facilities have operated in Europe for the past three decades - where illicit drugs can be used under the supervision of trained staff.
CONVENERS GROUP MEETING WITH THE FIRST MINISTER
Last week at Parliament, I had the opportunity to question the First Minister as Convener of the Scottish Parliament's Standards, Procedures, and Public Appointments Committee. I used my slot to ask the First Minister on proposed parliamentary reforms.
TOPICAL QUESTION ON 2 SISTERS, CAMBUSLANG
On Tuesday at Parliament, I asked a Topical Question of the Scottish Government regarding their response to the closure of the 2 Sisters factory in Cambuslang. Replying to my question, the Minister for Business, Innovation and Energy, Paul Wheelhouse MSP, committed to holding discussions with South Lanarkshire Council about setting up an Action Group – similar to what is being established in Annan regarding the proposed closure of a factory there.
COMMENT – AIR STRIKES IN SYRIA
We in the SNP unequivocally condemn the use of chemical weapons. However, it is not easy to see how this humanitarian crisis will be helped by air strikes. The UK must work with our partners across the international community to ensure a considered response, with a clear strategy, that enables proper investigation, prevents the development and use of chemical weapons, holds those responsible to account, and helps bring the war to a close.
CLARE HAUGHEY MSP PLEDGES TO #SAYNOTOPUPPYDEALERS
SNP MSP Clare Haughey has signed the pledge to #saynotopuppydealers in order to help combat illegal puppy farming and is urging others to do the same. On Monday 16th April the Scottish SPCA launched a joint campaign with the SNP Scottish Government, Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home, RSPCA, Battersea, Dogs Trust, University of Edinburgh, PAAG, Trading Standards Scotland, One Kind, Blue Cross and BSAVA, to put an end to the illegal puppy trade.

Following on from yesterday’s devastating news that the 2 Sisters factory in Cambuslang is set to close in August, I spoke with the Scottish Government’s Minister for Business, Innovation and Energy today to see what steps can now be taken. I have managed to secure an early meeting with the Minister, Paul Wheelhouse MSP, to discuss the way forward. Other stakeholders will also be invited to this discussion.
MSP OFFERS ASSISTANCE TO 2 SISTERS WORKFORCE
Following the announcement that the 2 Sisters Group will close its chicken production plant in Cambuslang in August 2018, local MSP Clare Haughey has said her “overriding priority now as the constituency MSP is to ensure those who are being made redundant find alternative and suitable work.”

SNP MSP Clare Haughey is encouraging consumers in Rutherglen to shop locally and support the 9,050 small businesses in the local economy. The Scottish Government is committed to supporting businesses in Scotland, including retailers, providing the most competitive package of non-domestic rates reliefs anywhere in the UK in the 2018/19 budget.
