Rutherglen MSP Clare Haughey and Rutherglen Central and North Councillor Janine Calikes met with Flip Out Glasgow on Monday 2nd June to discuss potential opportunities for constituents who lost their jobs suddenly last week when Airspace closed its premises in East Kilbride.

I used my column for this week's Rutherglen Reformer to mark my appointment as the Scottish Government's Minister for Mental Health. I will also, of course, continue to work hard to represent my constituents as the Constituency MSP for Rutherglen, Cambuslang, Halfway and Blantyre, and I will continue to be accessible and pro-active locally.
COMMENT – NEWTON FARM NURSERY PLACE PROVISION
Clare has written to South Lanarkshire Council conveying constituent concerns over nursery places in Newton Farm.
DEBATE ON ACCESS TO VITAL MEDICINES
On Wednesday, I took part in a debate on widening the access to vital medicines. The Scottish Government has significantly improved access to new medicines in recent years, and furthermore, are currently in the process of implementing recommendations from a review which will mean faster access to new treatments.
MINISTERIAL STATEMENT ON COMPLAINTS AND CONDUCT REVIEW
Dame Elish Angiolini is to review the processes for handling complaints against the police. The independent review, commissioned by the Cabinet Secretary for Justice, Michael Matheson MSP, and Lord Advocate James Wolffe, will look at how serious incidents and alleged misconduct are investigated. I took part in a Ministerial Statement announcing the launch of the review.

Rutherglen MSP Clare Haughey visited Cathkin High on Friday to join in a celebration ceremony which was organised to mark the schools win at the Scottish Schools Senior Shield last month.
COMMENT – BURIAL FEES
In the pain of immediate loss, the last thing grieving relatives need is the worry of funeral costs for their loved one. Whilst burial fees in South Lanarkshire rose by only 3%, or the rate of inflation, in the past year, it is regrettable that there has been such a marked increase in the preceding years.
