SCOTTISH BUDGET WELCOMED BY LOCAL MSP
Holyrood has backed the Scottish Government’s budget plans, which offer “economic stability in the face of Brexit while giving a cash boost to the NHS, schools and other vital services”, according to Rutherglen MSP Clare Haughey.

The use and regulation of fireworks is the focus of a public consultation which aims to ensure everyone can enjoy displays safely. The Scottish Government has launched a consultation which asks for views on issues such as whether the sale of fireworks to the public should be banned, and what other measures can help ensure fireworks are used safely and responsibly.

EMPLOYMENT FIGURES CAUTIOUSLY WELCOMED BY LOCAL MSP
Rutherglen MSP Clare Haughey has praised the most recent labour market statistics which shows that unemployment in Scotland is at a record low. Scotland’s unemployment rate is down to 3.6%, lower than the UK rate of 4.0%, and the number of people unemployed in Scotland has now fallen below 100,000 for the first time on record.
BUSY BEES BUZZ IN RUTHERGLEN POLITICIANS
Local MSP Clare Haughey and Rutherglen Central and North Councillor Janine Calikes visited Busy Bees to congratulate them on recent funding success. The group, which base themselves at Reuther Hall, were the recipients of £7,899 from the Big Lottery Fund.
MSP ENCOURAGES MORE WOMEN TO TAKE UP CERVICAL CANCER SCREENING
Rutherglen MSP Clare Haughey is backing the charity Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust who are trying to raise awareness about how women can reduce their risk of cervical cancer. Over 3,200 women are diagnosed with cervical cancer every year in the UK, yet it is one of the only cancers that can actually be prevented.
FUNDING BOOST WILL SEE ADDITONAL NURSES AND COUNSELLORS IN LOCAL SCHOOLS
Rutherglen MSP Clare Haughey has welcomed plans that will help provide an additional 350 school counsellors across Scotland. Last month, Finance Secretary Derek Mackay MSP announced his draft budget proposals for 2019/20 – outlining a £12 million increase in mental health funding for schools.
