ACE Place Nursery and Out of School Care has become the latest Rutherglen business to sign up to pay the Living Wage.

Clare Haughey MSP is backing a project urging people to get their hearing checked and start benefiting from using hearing aids and assistive equipment. The local MSP met with the organisation Action on Hearing Loss Scotland to discuss their ‘Hear to Inform and Connect’ service – which is funded by the National Lottery Community Fund.

The number of emergency parcels handed out by food banks in Scotland rose by nearly a quarter over the last year, according to the UK’s largest food bank provider. The Trussell Trust said its food banks provided more than 210,000 packages to people in crisis in 2018-19 – up 23% from the previous year.

Rutherglen MSP Clare Haughey caught up with a Burnside constituent in the Scottish Parliament for an event held to re-energise a women’s pensions campaign. Anne Potter set up the WASPI Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Dunbartonshire and Renfrewshire group to urge the UK government to investigate transitional measures for 1950s-born women who have been hit by the equalisation of the state pension age, a change which began in 1995 and was compounded in 2011.

The Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS) has stepped in to protect members of Parkhead Credit Union in the East End of Glasgow, which has stopped trading and is now in default. Rutherglen MSP Clare Haughey has been contacted by the FSCS to advise that some of her constituents are customers, however the FSCS have added that they will “compensate the vast majority” of constituents who were members of the Glasgow-based Credit Union “within seven days”.

Rutherglen MSP Clare Haughey has backed calls from MPs at Westminster for the UK Government to ensure the future of the Post Office network is secure. The calls come as new figures reveal that Scotland is being hit hardest by post office closures. Of 1,016 temporarily closed branches in the UK, 134 are in Scotland, representing 13 per cent.
