Local MSP, Clare Haughey, has welcomed a new scheme from the Scottish Government which will support priority groups on to the property ladder.
The Open Market Shared Equity Scheme will open to support priority group first-time buyers who cannot afford the full price of a home – including social renters, disabled people, people over 60, members of the armed forces, and veterans.
This new scheme, launched alongside the First Homes Fund which is open to all eligible first-time buyers, provides vital financial support that will provide more access to affordable homes.
Commenting, Clare Haughey said:
“The Scottish Government is delivering on affordable housing, and this scheme, along with the wider First Home Fund, will provide a vital support for those looking to buy their first home.
“I know just how hard it is to get that first foot on the property ladder, and these schemes are essential to assist households who can sustain mortgage repayments, but find it difficult to build up the necessary savings to buy a home.
“I would strongly encourage anyone who may be eligible for these schemes and wants to own their own home to look into how to apply.”
More details on both the Open Market Shared Equity Scheme and the First Homes Fund, including how to check eligibility and apply, are available on the Scottish Government website at https://www.gov.scot/news/supporting-people-to-buy-their-first-home/
