“I welcome the Scottish Animal Welfare Commission’s report into the welfare of greyhounds used for racing in Scotland.
“Although much of the report looks at the unlicensed greyhound track at Thornton in Fife, the concerns highlighted within it are the same which have been levelled at racing at Shawfield – including the dangers of the design and curvature of the tracks, the injuries and the deaths many dogs sadly experience.
“Thankfully, no racing has taken place at Shawfield Stadium since the pandemic and I sincerely hope that remains the case going forward.”
