Commenting on Rishi Sunak entering 10 Downing Street, Clare Haughey MSP said:
“Rishi Sunak, like Boris Johnson and Liz Truss before him, has entered 10 Downing Street with a record not to be proud of.
“He broke Covid laws during lockdown, ushered in devastating cuts to Universal Credit during a cost of living crisis, and bragged about diverting public funds from deprived urban areas to wealthy, Tory-voting towns.
“After only a couple of days in office, Sunak has refused to commit to maintaining the triple lock on pensions despite being challenged on this, and has reinstated Suella Braverman after she was sacked for a security breach only six days earlier.
“The only way to properly protect pensioners, the most vulnerable in society, and to escape Tory austerity and Westminster chaos is to become an independent country.”
