‘CORONAVIRUS HEROES’ INITIATIVE LAUNCHED BY LOCAL MSP
Rutherglen MSP Clare Haughey has set up an online campaign to help celebrate local heroes who are doing amazing work throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.
Despite these difficult and uncertain times, as has been frequently reported in the Rutherglen Reformer over the last few weeks, ordinary people across Rutherglen and Cambuslang are going over and above to make sure vulnerable people aren’t left behind.
From carers, health workers, and shop workers, to public service providers, local businesses, and volunteers, the response locally has been extraordinary. Through her initiative, Clare Haughey MSP is hoping to recognise the good deeds and actions of as many local people as possible.
Commenting, the local MSP said:
“By playing their part in the battle against COVID-19, local heroes are making a massive difference to people’s lives. Their response to this emergency, whether by volunteering or through their job, should be recognised and remembered.
“There are countless examples on social media and in the Rutherglen Reformer of individuals and businesses doing incredible work which has been amazing to see.
“I appreciate not everyone wants recognition of their actions and happily help others without receiving any attention – which is entirely understandable. But during this tough period, people take heart from the many positive stories of locals going the extra mile, so I want to help pay tribute to as many people as possible.
“Entire communities across Rutherglen and Cambuslang have pulled together during this ongoing pandemic – let’s celebrate them!”.
Anyone who resides or works in Rutherglen, Cambuslang, Halfway or Blantyre can be nominated. If you know people who are going that extra mile, please nominate them using Clare’s website – https://atomic-temporary-122954431.wpcomstaging.com/covid-19-local-heroes/.
