DEBATE ON RACE EQUALITY ACTION PLAN

Ethnic minorities still face many barriers in everyday life, and to help tackle this the Scottish Government recently published a ‘Race Equality Action Plan’.

Figures show that people from minority backgrounds are more likely to live in poverty, twice as likely to be unemployed, and four times more likely to live in overcrowded homes.

My contribution to the debate touched upon the discrimination faced by the Gypsy/Traveller community, as well as the struggles of the show people community – of which my Rutherglen constituency has the second largest settlement in Scotland.
