MSP ENCOURAGES PARENTS IN RUTHERGLEN TO MAKE USE OF FREE FLU VACCINE

SNP MSP Clare Haughey is encouraging all parents and guardians of 2-5 year olds in Rutherglen to take advantage of the free flu vaccine before Christmas.

In a bid to keep children virus-free this winter, GP practices across Scotland are providing the nasal flu vaccine free of charge.

The annual vaccine is also offered to everyone aged 65 and over, pregnant women, people with serious health conditions, health care workers, and all primary school children.

Commenting, Rutherglen MSP Clare Haughey said:

“With only two weeks left until Christmas, I am urging all parents and guardians in Rutherglen who haven’t yet to do so, to take their children to their local GP for the free flu vaccine.

“The nasal spray only takes a few minutes, is painless, and does not contain a live virus so will not cause flu in your child and can protect them for up to a year.

“The vaccine provides the best defence against the flu, so I encourage everyone who is eligible to make an appointment with their GP practice as soon as possible”.
