To ask the Scottish Government whether it will provide an update on the number of staff working in the NHS.’

Shona Robison responded:

Under this Government, the number of staff working in NHSScotland has increased by over 12,000 Whole Time Equivalent (WTE) to a record high total of 139,262.0 WTE.

This includes record high numbers of qualified nurses and midwives, which have increased by 6.8 per cent to 43,820.9 WTE, and a 45.7 per cent increase in consultants, which have increased to 5,299.6 WTE.
