Dear Mr McGlynn,
Due to the closure of the A724/Cambuslang Road to facilitate railway bridge repair work, roads in Rutherglen and the surrounding areas have been gridlocked, particularly at peak times, since Monday 20th February.
Not only are the main arterial routes experiencing traffic chaos but the problems extend to streets in surrounding areas.
The traffic management measures and diversions currently in place are failing miserably. Commuters journey times have more than doubled in many instances. Buses have not been running to their usual timetables due to the traffic delays. This is seriously impacting the lives of local people and the prospect of this situation continuing for three months is completely unacceptable.
Quite frankly, the current situation is shambolic and the traffic problems associated with the A724 closure should have been anticipated and better managed, particularly given the normally high level of traffic on this major route.
Can you please advise me what immediate remedial action will be put in place to alleviate the current situation, which is completely intolerable for my constituents, local businesses and others passing through the area?
