Save Bank of Scotland, Rutherglen

The Bank of Scotland have announced the closure of their Rutherglen branch from this June.

This is breaking news, and the bank are saying that it because of customer numbers.

I strongly refute any notion from banks that all banking has moved online, and that people do not wish to use local branches. We have seen with the BankHUB in Cambuslang that this is simply not the case.

It is imperative that vulnerable people, and those who lack the means to bank over the internet can bank safely and securely, as well as seek financial advice and support.

I am outraged at this announcement, and so I am seeking a meeting with Bank of Scotland as a matter of urgency where I will be stating the case for the bank to remain open.

Until this meeting is set up, I’ve launched this petition to show our community’s feeling for the bank to be saved – and I’ll present BoS with the signatures at this meeting.

The way that banks have been permitted to abandon our communities is nothing short of a disgrace – the UK Government needs to do more to protect customers.

Please sign and share this petition to show your support.
