Cambuslang Jobcentre is one of two set for closure by the UK Government from January next year.

It’s outrageous that this announcement has been made without consultation with elected members, local communities, service users, unions or employees – especially since we have been here before, when I led a campaign against the centre’s closure in 2017.   

Jobcentres play an important role in supporting people who are seeking work and play a key role in supporting people into employment. 

The jobcentres in Cambuslang and Rutherglen are not around the corner from each other, and this closure will increase the walk to the nearest jobcentre from 30 minutes to over an hour for many.

It will have a huge impact on some of the most vulnerable people in our communities, and I will fight this closure every step of the way.
