LOCAL MSP WELCOMES NEW APPRENTICESHIP FIGURES

For immediate release

Rutherglen Constituency MSP, Clare Haughey has welcomed new figures that show that over 2,500 apprentices were in training in South Lanarkshire at the end of last year.

The numbers, which are the latest on record, revealed that there are nearly 40,000 Modern Apprenticeships in place in Scotland.

The recently passed Scottish Budget commits £100 million of funding for Modern and Foundation Apprenticeships in 2025-26, further expanding the opportunities available.

Commenting, Clare Haughey said;

“I welcome the news that there are over 2,500 apprentices training under the Modern Apprenticeship scheme in South Lanarkshire.

“Apprenticeships provide outstanding opportunities for our young people to acquire key skills, and are a route into high quality careers.

“Recently, I visited Dalkia at Rutherglen Links to speak to some of their engineering apprentices, and it was great to hear about the opportunities which they are accessing – from working in other locations across the country, to experiencing different job roles.

“We now have record numbers of young people securing places on Modern Apprenticeships schemes, and the investment in the recent Budget brings more of these valuable opportunities for young people and local businesses.”
