ACE PLACE NURSERY BECOMES LIVING WAGE ACCREDITED
ACE Place Nursery and Out of School Care has become the latest Rutherglen business to sign up to pay the Living Wage.
The Scottish Living Wage is independently calculated based on the cost of living – with the real Living Wage rising on the 5th November by 25p to £9. This is not to be confused with the UK Government’s National Living Wage, which is currently set at £7.83 an hour for anyone over the age of 25.
Joining 71 other Living Wage accredited employers in South Lanarkshire, ACE Place are a family run business with two settings caring for over 300 children aged between 0 and twelve years.
Alison Harkin, the nursery’s director, said:
“We are absolutely delighted to become a Living Wage accredited employer. This means that all 62 members of staff working for ACE Place Nursery and Out of School Care will earn a real Living Wage, regardless of their age, experience, qualifications, length of service or job role.
“Apprentices are not covered at this stage, however the three we employ are paid at £10.80 per week above the minimum required anyway, as we recognise they too make a tremendous contribution to ACE Place.
“I must thank the parents for appreciating the value of our service, and for affording us the chance to reward our hard-working team.“
Rutherglen MSP Clare Haughey, who herself is Living Wage accredited, congratulated ACE Place for making the move.
Commenting, the local MSP added:
“ACE Place Nursery and Out of School Care is a great local business, and it’s fantastic to see them sign up to the Living Wage Foundation.
“For businesses, paying the Living Wage makes sense. It’s an investment in people and all the evidence shows it leads to increased productivity and reduced staff absence and turnover.
“I would strongly encourage other employers in Rutherglen and Cambuslang to look into the real benefits of becoming an accredited Living Wage employer.”
